6 areas to self care
There are 6 aspects of self care that often slip our minds, and before we know it, we’re left feeling heavy and depleted without really knowing why.
Self care can seem like an airy fairy topic filled with face masks and bath bombs, but without putting some time into each aspect of “caring for self”, you can look up one day and find a very empty cup. We are going to highlight 6 different areas of self care each of us needs to remember, and maybe put some more energy into.
Here is a list of the overarching aspects and some of the different examples that sit within it. Hopefully, this can help you get some ideas on where you stand with yourself.
Your physical health
1. Develop a regular sleep routine
2. Aim for a healthy diet (yes, this sometimes includes chocolate)
3. Take lunch breaks and get some fresh air
4. Take your dog for a walk after work
5. Use your sick leave and holiday leave, 365 days of work is usually not living your best life
6. Exercise before or after work regularly, consistency is key, it will also make it easier to keep going
Your social health
1. Prioritise close relationships in your life (partners, family, friends, children)
2. Say no to social events if it means you will be more energised because of it
3. Arrive at work and leave on time every day
Your mental health
1. Journal, just sit down and start writing anything that comes to mind
2. Know you’re not alone and let someone else in, sometimes a more experienced ear is necessary
3. Engage with a non-work hobby like a social sport
4. Turn off your work notifications outside of working hours
5. Find a method of relaxation you enjoy and make time for it
6. See the friends and family who you feel uplifted by
Your emotional health
1. Do something you enjoy like going to the beach
2. Continue to see friends and family
3. And, talk to them about how you are coping with work and life challenges in a way you are comfortable with
Your work-life balance
1. Engage in regular check-ins with a more experienced colleague
2. Set up a team activity
3. Be strict and strong with your boundaries
4. Read professional journals
5. Continue to learn and grow through development programs
Finally, your spiritual health (even if you’re not religious)
1. Meditate or take 5 deep slow breaths
2. Go for a walk and get some fresh air
3. Go to a place of worship or of meaning to you, maybe even just a place attached to positive memories
4. Do yoga (we love boho beautiful on Youtube)
5. Chat with a close friend for support
By crossing off just one example from each area can help you begin to fill up your cup again. At the end of the day, we can’t do anything our best if we aren’t feeling full within ourselves, so it will always be worth prioritising ourselves.

Am I the only one who feels like I’ve got some serious work to do…? Super helpful though!
